The Honest Woodcutter
Once upon a time, there lived a poor woodcutter in a small village. Every day, he went to the forest to cut wood and earn money. One day, while cutting a tree near a river, his axe slipped from his hand and fell into the water. The river was very deep, and he could not get his axe back. He sat down and began to cry. Suddenly, a fairy appeared from the river. She asked, “Why are you crying?” The woodcutter told her the truth. The fairy dived into the river and came back with a golden axe. “Is this your axe?” she asked. The woodcutter said, “No, this is not mine.” Then she brought a silver axe. “Is this yours?” Again, he said, “No.” Finally, she brought an iron axe. The woodcutter smiled and said, “Yes, this is my axe.” The fairy was very happy with his honesty. She gave him all three axes as a reward. The woodcutter thanked her and went home happily.
